310gsm Black-Core Paper
This sample pairs 310gsm black-core paper with a linen finish and CMYK printing on 57 x 89 mm bridge-size cards.
The challenge was to hold color consistency and fine print detail through the linen texture. The black core edge also had to stay clean after trimming.
The project coordinated three components: the cards, a 2-piece rigid box holding two decks, and a cross fold booklet. Each has its own paper weight and finish.

Each component in this sample was chosen for a specific physical job.
Here is how the card stock, surface, box, and booklet work together.
The black core layer blocks light from passing through the card, so the printed side stays opaque.
At 310gsm, the stock has the stiffness to hold up to repeated handling and shuffling at bridge size.
The dark core also keeps the trimmed edge dark instead of white.
The cards are printed in CMYK first. The linen finish then adds a fine crosshatch texture to the surface.
This texture changes how the cards feel in hand and how they slide during shuffling.
Because the texture is applied after printing, color consistency and print detail need to be controlled through that step.
Cross Fold Booklet / Custom 2-Piece Rigid Box
The box uses 157gsm art paper mounted on 1200gsm grey cardboard. This gives it a rigid structure that holds its shape.
The two-piece format holds two decks. The full-color printing is finished with a matte surface.
The booklet is printed double-sided in CMYK on 128gsm matte art paper. Its matte surface matches the matte finish of the box.
The cross fold format folds down to a compact size for packing with the decks.
Factory Note: On a 310gsm black-core sheet, the order of operations matters as much as the machine settings.
We let the CMYK ink dry fully before the sheet goes through linen texturing. Embossing pressure on wet or tacky ink can scuff the print or leave marks on the surface.
The same sheet then goes to die-cutting, where blade pressure is tuned to the paper. Too light, and the edge tears and looks fuzzy. Too heavy, and the layers crush, which can smear white paper fibers into the dark core.
We inspect the first cut sheets under a loupe and adjust before the full run. That is how the card edges stay clean and dark.
